Sunshine Coast Daily - Whoever Heard of a Free Car

"It's the car deal which is almost too good to be true. After a “very successful” liquidation sale last month, Caloundra City Autos was left with an abundance of vehicles which had been traded in.

The answer? Buy one car, get one free. It is a deal usually associated with small goods or pizza but general sales manager Richard Burbage described the five-day event as principal Doug Drinnan’s gift to the community.

“There has been a lot of bad press about GMAC (General Motors funding arm) pulling out of Australia and what that is going to do,” Mr Burbage said.
“We (CCA) have bucked the trend with hard work and dedication and when you get a good name, like what Doug has established with 30 years here, then the customers come back.” “The trade-ins were piling up and myself and Doug the dealer principal decided to offer this deal as a thank you. “It is sort of like a Christmas gift to the community which has supported us over the last 30 years.” By mid afternoon yesterday, the first day of the offer, Mr Burbage estimated between 30 and 40 vehicles had been sold. It was all sales staff on deck as calls came from across Queensland asking about the deal. “People have been ringing from all over, all day,” Mr Burbage said. “They want to know what it is all about, what it involves. “Some people have questioned how good the deal was but then they have come down and seen it is genuine. “We've had a lot of people say the second vehicle is going to sons and daughters who are at uni, that sort of thing.”

Customers can choose to buy a new or used vehicle and then can choose from a selection of vehicles for free. Caloundra City Autos has more than 300 new and used cars in stock across their range The sale will continue while stocks last or until 5pm on Wednesday, December 31.
